I had a perfect fine Joomla template, plenty of CSS and use it right. Everything was working fine until my client ask me for an horizontal drop down menu. Ok, no problem, I said, but shame of me, there is a problem, one commonly known as IE. Hace dos días decidí reinstalar mi portátil, reemplazando mi confiable ubuntu 9.04 con la más reciente versión, la que busca ser un 10.10.10. Tan pronto como comenzó la instalación sentí dentro de mi que algo había cambiado. Como usuario de Linux desde hace más de 10 años (toda una vida dirían las mamas) estoy acostumbrado a instalar primero y configurar después, me he hecho a la idea de que algunos dispositivos funcionen tan pronto como reinicio y otros requieran un poco más de esfuerzo y de repente, tan sólo algunos segundos después de haber insertado el CD el instalador me preguntó si quería descargar las actualizaciones mientras se instalaba el sistema, me daba pereza sacar el cable de red así que le dije no y continué, pero entonces vi que en la esquina superior derecha aparecía el ícono que indica la presencia de wi-fi, decidí pulsarlo y descubrí que mi tarjeta de red ya estaba funcionando ¿? Hi everyone, long time without saying a word. A lot of hard work and my postgraduate studies have kept me busy for the past weeks. Anyway, I’m working right now in a very cool project with one of my favorite customer (he has the 5 keys of happiness: he challenges me, says exactly what he wants since the beginning, walks with me throughout the process, test everything once and again and finally – but no less important – pays me on time and with justice), this time he wants to play hard with maps, Google Maps, so he called me and said: Jose I want to know the distance between 2 different address in the same city using Google Maps.
After a few hours searching, reading and evaluating info I finally found a PHP’s library that seems the key to work on this: php-google-maps-api. According to its blog, this library has almost everything you need in order to work with Google Maps V3, and most important for me right now, it comes with a method for calculate distance between 2 different address: float geoGetDistance( float $lat1, float $lon1, float $lat2, float $lon2, [float $unit = 'M'] )

Con el fin de ofrecer a los estudiantes de este semestre una alternativa a las herramientas que han venido utilizando en los últimos dos periodos, he estado revisando dos herramientas de la suite de Zoho: Creator y Reports.
Creator es una herramienta para generar aplicaciones WEB tipo CRUD sobre bases de datos que pueden importarse desde ACCESS. Funciona muy bien y en pocos pasos permite tener el esquema de funcionamiento básico listo. Reports por su parte permite construir reportes basados en tablas existentes o escribiendo código SQL directamente.

I was watching a demo for iMovie + iPhone 4 in youtube, suddenly I noticed a little football icon near the resolution selector, I couldn’t resist so I’ve clicked on it and for my surprise, I was hearing vuvuzelas while watching video. Great (useless) add-on for this #worldcup season:

A customer asked me for a new photo slideshow he wanted to include on his site this week. His budget was short and he had no time for this task, so a design team would not be an option. Instead I “googled” for the “free slideshow” combination and found this: “Slideroll™ is a photo slideshow maker that you can use to create slide shows with your photos.” I signed up for free, upload the photos my customer gave me and after a few seconds I had this:
